Aici nu există cele mai elementare dotări, iar oficialităţile nici nu pătrund în interior. Cu toate acestea, favelele exercită o atracţie irezistibilă asupra străinilor. William este ambasadorul SUA, dar nu are pregătirea sau calităţile necesare postului. Fiind presat de propriul staff să-şi îndeplinească atribuţiile, William ia decizia să “evadeze” într-o favelă, unde apelează la Fish pentru a-şi şterge urmele. Fish ştie să îmbine utilul cu plăcutul, folosind tribul amazonian Oypapi pe post de atracţie turistică (pentru firma unde lucrează), dar urmărind şi să o cucerească pe Iracema – una dintre componentele tribului. De asemenea, familia franceză formată din Irène şi Antoine realizează un film antropologic, bazat pe oamenii care trăiesc în favele. Irène intervievează în special femeile care lucrează ca menajere (aşa cum este Maria Angelica), fiind ajutată de cameramanul Robert – cumnatul lui Antoine. În fine, Charlotte Jones – un respectat chirurg plastician, deşi are o vârstă respectabilă, îşi găseşte refugiul tot la Rio.
