Wu Fai-tat, unemployed for over two years, repeatedly fails at finding work. He tries driving a taxi but crashes, attempts theft but ends up trapped in a freezer needing police rescue, and is eventually evicted by his landlord, forced to live in his car. Unable to bear their circumstances, his wife abandons him and their son. Desperate and humiliated, Fai-tat decides to rob a bank wearing a Mickey Mouse mask. However, he arrives to find two other robbers already in the process of stealing. They escape successfully, but Fai-tat's mask is knocked off by one of them, leaving him captured on the bank's security cameras. As Fai-tat flees the bank, he collides at the entrance with Yu Lok-tin, a senior executive at an electronics company who was recently laid off due to the economic crisis. The collision causes Fai-tat's briefcase to fall into Lok-tin's hands. Lok-tin chases after Fai-tat to return it, but is mistaken for a member of the robbery gang. Fai-tat refuses to go to the police to clear up the misunderstanding because he has a criminal record and fears leaving his young son Ah-kei alone. Meanwhile, Lok-tin overhears his wife and daughter's conversation at home and learns of his daughter's resentment toward him, leaving him despondent. The two men decide to flee together, taking Ah-kei on an escape journey. The trio heads south. At a night market steak stand, Lok-tin asks the owner, a man called Steak King, for directions but is mistaken for a worker named Ah-ching whom the owner was expecting. Unable to explain, Lok-tin is assigned work he once considered beneath him. When Steak King realizes his mistake, Lok-tin decides that running cannot be a permanent solution. He finds the humble work is not as bad as he imagined and asks Steak King to keep him on, working under an assumed identity. This unlikely trio rents an old apartment and begins their shared life together. Through Lok-tin's example, Fai-tat learns the meaning of responsibility and begins to reconsider his duties as a father, actively seeking work. After facing rejection, he finally finds employment at Wan-cheung's motorcycle repair shop, becoming Motorcycle Fai-tat. Working at the steak stand transforms Lok-tin's values. He lets go of his vanity and learns humility, discovering the true meaning of life's worth and happiness. His frequent interactions with young customers help him better understand youth culture and attitudes—an unexpected benefit for someone who had been too focused on work to communicate with his own child. As days pass, what destiny awaits this runaway trio of three? Will they have another chance to start their lives anew?
